What is the simplest way to run local pickup?
Check orders at set times, bag and label each one, keep a dedicated pickup shelf, and send a ready message only when it is truly ready.
Keep it boring and repeatable. A pickup routine needs a schedule, a shelf and a message.
The schedule
Check for new orders at fixed times, for example after opening and after lunch. Fixed times are easier for staff than watching for alerts all day.
The shelf
- One shelf or bin near the till, out of customers’ reach
- Each order bagged with name and order number on the outside
- Sorted by surname so anyone can find a bag fast
The message
Mark the order ready only when the bag is on the shelf. The customer’s notice should say what to bring, when you are open and how long you will hold it.
At handover
Ask for the name and order number, hand over the bag and mark it collected. Then a friendly word about something new in store.
